Eleanor Wenstrand, 84

Eleanor A. Wenstrand, 84, of rural Essex, passed away suddenly Sunday, April 15, 2012, at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Eleanor Amelia Wenstrand was born to Charles and Amelia (Mainquist) Peterson Jan. 18, 1928, in Red Oak. Eleanor was raised in Red Oak, graduating from Red Oak High School in l945. She worked at Bell Telephone in Red Oak while single.

Eleanor married James P. Wenstrand Aug. 7, 1949, in Red Oak. Eleanor and Jim made their home on the same farm near Nyman their entire marriage. She loved all the activity on the farm.

While busy with farm and family, she served as a 4-H leader. Eleanor enjoyed playing the organ and piano. She was an avid golfer, having made a hole-in-one. Eleanor was an active member of the Fremont Lutheran Church, serving in many positions, and a member of the Red Hat Society and Study Service Club. Eleanor loved her family dearly; her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most important to her.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Verona and Pauline; and brother, Wes.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, James Wenstrand, of rural Essex; four children, Anne (Judd) Kruse, of Ankeny, Gloria (Ellis) Jensen, of Omaha, Randall (Debra) Wenstrand, of rural Essex, and John (Teresa) Wenstrand, of Red Oak; 10 grandchildren, Lindsay (Nathan) Meadows, Chris Kruse, Matt (Jackie) Jensen, Andy (Jenny) Jensen, Steve Jensen, Nicole Wenstrand, Emily Wenstrand, Kassie Wenstrand, Casey Wenstrand and Anika Wenstrand; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jack, Charline, Megan, Sarah, Gretchen, Addison and Molly; and brother, Sam (Evelyn) Peterson, of Vancouver, Wash.; along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services took place Friday, April 20, at Fremont Lutheran Church in Nyman. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Nyman with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Visitation with the family was Thursday evening, at Fremont Lutheran Church in Nyman.
