Esaias wins at J.J. Harris Tourney

CORNING—Red Oak wrestling had three wrestlers place at the John J. Harris Tournament in Corning, held Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Seth Esaias (171-pounds) won first place in his bracket after he defeated Keaton Hulett of Creston Orient-Macksburg by pinfall with one second left in the match.

Esaias had trailed by a point for most of the match and won the match when it was tied 3-3.

Cole Meek finished in second in his weight class (152-pounds) when he lost a 3-1 decision to Dray Carl of Corning.

To reach that point, Meek defeated Jon Wright of Winterset in the semifinals, by an 8-1 decision.

Geoff Sellers was the final finisher for Red Oak, as he took home fifth place.

Sellers won a decision against Erik Freed of Clarke Osceola.

The Tigers had lost to Shenandoah, 53-27, last Tuesday in Creston.

Three of Red Oak's four non-forfeit victories came by way of pinfall.

Esaias pinned Sam Fair with five seconds remaining in the first period to win in a 171-pound clash.

Nick Leinen (215-pounds) took his pinfall victory 48 seconds into the third period against Tyler McCoy. Meek pinned Matt O'Hearn with 22 seconds left in the first period.

German Escribano (130-pounds) defeated Tyler Dalley by a 7-3 decision.

Red Oak also lost to Creston Orient-Macksburg, 62-9. Esaias, Meek and Sellers all won their matches by decision.

Esaias defeated Keaton Hulett 6-2, Meek defeated David Thompson 9-6 and Sellers defeated Gage Cheers 6-2.

With the dual losses this week, Red Oak is now 3-18 for the season.

Red Oak will be on the road Thursday to Council Bluffs as they face Atlantic and Lewis Central.

Then this Saturday, Red Oak will compete in the Hawkeye 10 tournament, which will be held at Atlantic.
