Essex host 102nd Annual Labor Day Celebration Sept. 1-3

Essex will host their 102nd Annual Labor Day Celebration Sept. 1-3,  with the theme “Essex Pride....City Wide!”

Following is the schedule of events for the celebration:

Saturday, Sept. 1

• 10 a.m., Golf Tourna-ment, 18 Hole/4 Person Best Ball,      9 a.m. registration, 10 a.m. tee off, limited carts available-must reserve in advance.

Sunday, Sept. 2

• 10 a.m., Community Worship service at St. John’s Church, “4 His Love” Gospel Group will sing during service.    

• 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Sunday Dinner at Faith Covenant Church, handicap accessible and air conditioned.

• 1 p.m., “4 His Love,” Faith Covenant Church. Free admission, offering taken.      

• 1-5 p.m., Antique Tractor Pull, free spectator admission,      NE Corner Arena, must register by noon. Food and beverages from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Coin Fire Dept. will serve sandwiches and ice cream.

• 1 p.m., Kids Water Fights at the SW corner of Anderson Park, hosted by Essex Fire Fighters. Fights begin about 1:30 p.m. Sign-ins at 1 p.m.

• 2-4 p.m., All School Reunion in Essex High School Trojan Hall.

• 2-8 p.m.,  Food stand in Anderson Park. Bill & Ruth's Super Nacho's will serve super nachos, hamburgers, polish sausage, hot dogs and drinks.

• 4 p.m., Children's Pedal Tractor Pull in Anderson Park sponsored by Madsen Inter-national in Shenandoah. Children aged 4-12 years may participate. Awards and qualification for State will be given. 4 p.m. registration, 4:30 p.m. pulling begins.     

• 4-8 p.m., Homemade Pie A’la Mode in Anderson Park. Everyone is welcome and current and past Grand Marshals are special guests. Grand Marshal group photo at 5:15 p.m. Proceeds benefit Essex Community Endowment & Trust Fund.

• 4-8 p.m., Kids inflatables in Anderson Park.

• 5-7 p.m., BINGO in Anderson Park hosted by Bank Iowa.      

• 6 p.m., Bathtub Races on Denison St., on the west side of Anderson Park, sponsored by the Fremont Farmers 4-H Club. Registration is at 6 p.m., and  races  begin at 6:30.

• 8 p.m., Baseball Field Dedication.      

• 8:15 p.m., Alumni Homerun Derby at Jauron Field. All past players of Coach Jauron may participate.

• 9 p.m.,  Glow in the Dark Golf. Come early to relax in the clubhouse and purchase glow in the dark balls and accessories. Limited carts available. Please reserve in advance.     

Monday, Sept. 3

• 7-11 a.m., Pancake and Sausage Breakfast at the Fire Station.

• 8 a.m., SMC Fun Run/ Walk. Registration starts at 7 a.m., at Essex High School. Hosted by Shenandoah Medical Center. Get entry forms at SMC.

• 8 a.m., All day market with antiques, collectibles and crafts in Anderson Park.      Market registration brochures are available from ECC.

• 8 a.m.-noon, Book sale at Lied Public Library.

• 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Food stands  in Anderson Park and Downtown.                  

• 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Antique and Classic Car Show, Downtown.  ECC Currency will be given as prizes at the 1 p.m., announcement of the winners.

• 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Antique Tractor Show, Downtown.

• 10 a.m., Beautiful Baby Contest. Ages 0-24 months may participate. Located at      Anderson Park Bandstand.

• 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Kids inflatables in Anderson Park.     

• 2 p.m., Parade. Judging begins at 12:45. Line up starts at 10 a.m.
 

• 4 p.m., Demolition Derby  at the NE corner of Essex. Admission  $10 or $7 bought in advance from O’Reillys. Check-in from 1:30-3 p.m.
