Essex loses late to FM

ESSEX—The Essex Trojanettes are once again tied for first in the Corner Conference softball standings after losing to Fremont-Mills at home Friday night 2-1.

The game became a pitchers dual between Essex’s Haley Fundermann and Fremont-Mills’ Sydney Esary. Both defenses kept each other in check for most of the game.

Essex struck first in the sixth inning when they scored a run courtesy of a Regan Burns single. Seana Perkins scored the run.

Essex had additional opportunities earlier in the game with runners in scoring position, but they weren’t able to capitalize.

The Trojanettes entered the seventh inning with an opportunity to win the game.

However, Fremont-Mills responded quickly by scoring two runs, one by Kendall Fichter and the other by Taryn Williams, to take a 2-1 lead.

Essex picked up their lone win of the week last Thursday when they defeated the Sidney Cowgirls 10-4.

The Trojanettes were originally scheduled to play East Mills last Tuesday, but the game was postponed.

The two teams will face each other Friday night at Essex High School.

The junior varsity softball game has been scheduled for Saturday.

Tuesday, Essex will be back on the road when they face the Nishnabotna Blue Devils.

Wednesday, Essex will be in Mount Ayr to compete in a tournament.
