Essex-South Page opens baseball season with pair of losses

Essex-South Page lost a pair of baseball games last week, 16-1 to Fremont-Mills and 14-1 to Southwest Valley.

On May 23, against Fremont-Mills, Cody McClintock had the only hit for Essex-South Page. He also scored a run, had a walk and a steal. Jake Gray reached twice on walks. 

Errors were a problem, as only half of the victors’ runs were earned.

On May 24, Southwest Valley visited Essex. It was 1-1 through the first three innings, but Southwest Valley scored seven in the fourth to open up the game. 

Essex-South Page had two hits, by Alex Dailey and Riley Martin, who scored the team’s lone run. McClintock had three stolen bases and Dailey a pair. 

Essex was scheduled to play Clarinda Academy last Thursday, but that game was postponed due to weather and rescheduled for June 13 at Clarinda.
