Expand the Grand receives $150,000 CAT grant

Members of the Enhance Iowa Board awarded $3,761,877 in Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants to projects in 12 Iowa communities; one of which is in Red Oak.

Phase II of the Expand the Grand project through the Grand Theatre, received $150,000.

The Expand the Grand project includes the renovation of the adjacent building to accommodate an additional movie screen and seats as well as an expanded concession area.

Total cost of the project is $923,842.

Additional projects granted funds were:

Estherville Municipal Swimming Pool Project, Estherville, received $250,000; Holstein Aquatic Center, Holstein, received $300,000; Marion Public Library New Building Project, Marion, received $450,000; Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Development – Phase 1, Sioux City, received $400,000; Tabor Library Association, Tabor, was awareded $186,877; All Aboard! Capital Campaign, Boone, was awarded $150,000; Morgan Creek Park Development – Phase 1, Palo, was awarded $350,000; Madison County Conservation Center, Winterset; received $450,000; The Principal® Pavilion, Mason City, was awarded $375,000; Winnebago County Environmental Education Center, Leland, received $250,000; Woodbine Regional Wellness Center, Woodbine, was awarded $450,000.

The Enhance Iowa Program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa.

To date, 80 CAT grants have been awarded by the board, totaling $25,036,725. The next Enhance Iowa Board meeting is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 1.
