Fellers, Kasubick to represent Red Oak track at State

 

NEOLA — The Red Oak girls and boys track teams’ strongest event this year was the 400-meter dash, as seniors Lauren Fellers and Josh Kasubick qualified for State Friday, in their individual event.
Fellers finished third Friday, with a time of 1:01.62. That state-qualifying time was nearly two seconds better than her season’s best, whish was 1:03.3.
Fellers returned to the track to anchor the Tigers’ 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Josie Snyder and fellow seniors Ingvild Skorpen and Kelsey Allison. The relay team finished second, and qualified for State with a time of 4:16.59.
The foursome beat their previous best by about three seconds to advance to one more meet this season. The relay team was seeded 24th at the state meet.
The Tigers’ freshman-laiden 800-meter sprint medley team of Snyder, Erica Jackson, Maddy Mann, and Caitlin Smith also qualified for State. Smith, a junior, was the only upperclassman on the team.
Red Oak’s sprint medley team beat their season-best time of 1:56.56 by a quarter of a second, finishing second at the regional meet.
In the boys’ sectional meet, Kasubick finished first in the 400-meter dash. He will be lining up in the second lane of the second heat at the state meet on Thursday.
Kasubick will also join Caleb Flowers, junior Colin Streicher, and sophomore Matt Soe in the 4x400-meter relay at State.

The state meet will be held at DrakeUniversity May 20-22.
