Fifth annual TRYathlon event planned for April 19

 RED OAK — The Red Oak Kiwanis Club will be hosting the fifth annual Red Oak TRYathlon April 19  at 9 a.m.

Registration will begin an hour before as forms are available at mcymca.com or can be picked up at the Montgomery County Family YMCA, located at 101 E. Cherry St. in Red Oak.

There are three events to take part in as part of the TRYathlon, swimming (200 meters), bicycling (five miles) and a walk/run (two miles). All distances are approximate. Participants may take part in any or all of the events.

Fresh fruit, water and bagels will be provided, courtesy of Fareway and HyVee.

Entry fees for registration by April 5 is $15 for individuals and $30 for a Relay Team of 3.

Entry fees for registration after April 5 will be $20 for individuals and $50 for a relay team of 3. 

T-shirts for the event are available for $10 each. Not all shirt sizes are guaranteed with registrations received after April 5. 

If you wish to participate with a friend, please indicate so on the registration form as they will try to group together as close as possible.

Timers will be available, but all ages are encouraged to participate at their own comfort level. The main objective is to promote health and wellness, as well as have fun.

Leading up to the event, the Montgomery County Family YMCA is offering a $50 all inclusive facility pass from now until April 14 for those who wish to train for the event. Registration and payment must be received before the pass is granted.

Proceeds will go to benefit the Montgomery County Family YMCA’s “Our Future is in Your Hands” Endowment, as well as Fun and the Friends of the Red Oak Trails.

The event is sponsored by the Kiwanis, the YMCA, Friends of the Red Oak Trails, the Red Oak Express, KCSI/KOAK, Red Oak Chamber and Industry Association, HyVee, Fareway, Acorn Clothing & Embroidery and Southwestern Community College.
