Football redistricting set

DES MOINES — The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) released the new districts for football for 2012-2013.

Red Oak High School will be back competing in Class 2A, after playing in Class 3A District 1 for two seasons. The Tigers will now play in District 8 along with Clarinda, Shenandoah, Clarinda Academy, Kuemper Catholic, OA-BCIG and Jefferson-Scranton.

Stanton, Villisca and Essex will continue to compete in 8-man District 8. They will be competing against conference foes like Fremont-Mills, Sidney and Nishnabotna. But they will be joined by Corning, Cumberland Anita Massena and Lenox.

Corning and Villisca are working on a whole grade sharing agreement. However they will play football separately for the 2012 season.

Noticeably absent from 8-Man District 8 is East Mills. The Wolverines will be playing 11-man football in 2012-2013. They will compete in Class A of District 8, along with Griswold, A-H-S-T, Logan-Magnolia, Riverside, Underwood, West Monona and Westwood.

Adel DeSoto Minburn and Perry will be moved into Class 3A District 1, taking Red Oak and Carroll's place.
