Four running for Red Oak school board

 Early September could bring changes to area school districts. 

On Friday, an official list of candidates for school board seats in Red Oak, Stanton and Villisca was certified for the Sept. 8 election. 

In Red Oak, two board seats will be vacant. Both incumbents, Bill Drey and Lee Fellers, will seek re-election for those positions. Also on the ballot are candidates Mark Johnson and Bryce Johnson. 

In Stanton, Paul Vanderholm is the incumbent candidate. Tom Weis is also running for one of two spots on the board. 

Villisca has two incumbents running. Jason Poston and Tom Williams will both seek re-election for three vacant seats. 

Southwest Community College will have incumbent Fred Shearer on the ballot as well. 

Voters in Stanton will also decide the fate of a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy. 

If approved, the levy would last 10 years, not exceeding $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation. 

Voters can cast their votes at the Gold Fair Building at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds for Red Oak, the Stanton Community Building for Stanton or the Villisca Community Building for Villisca. Southwest Community College’s seat can be voted on in Stanton or Villisca. 

The polls will be open Tuesday, Sept. 8 from noon-8 p.m. 

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. 

The Montgomery County Auditor’s office said “those requesting absentee ballots by mail should complete their requests as soon as possible and return them to the Auditor’s office. Absentee ballot requests will be filled as soon as the ballots are available.”
