Free People From Tobacco congratulates two school districts

Free People From Tobacco would like to congratulate the Stanton and Villisca School Districts for becoming tobacco-free campuses. The Smokefree Air Law which went into effect July1, 2008 required all school campuses to become a smoke-free campus. According to the new law, school grounds included: school parking lots, any vehicle located on school grounds, athletic fields, playgrounds, and tennis courts. Also, any outdoor area that is under the control of the school such as an offsite baseball field the school uses would also need to be smokefree grounds. A tobacco-free policy also prohibits the use of smokeless tobacco which is not a safe alternative to cigarettes.

Free People From Tobacco, The Iowa Association of School Boards and Iowa Cancer Consortium encourages all school districts to adopt a tobacco free policy. Changing to a tobacco-free campus policy assures the community that their school district is concerned about the health of their students and employees. It also recognizes the positive aspect of modeling good health choices to students. Free People From Tobacco serves Fremont, Montgomery, Page and Taylor counties in tobacco prevention activities.
