Friday Football: 8-man Week 3 Preview

With both Essex/South Page and Stanton having byes this week, only three games are scheduled for District 8 of 8-man.

Nishnabotna (0-3 overall, 0-2 district) at Southwest Valley (2-1 overall, 1-1 district)

After a close loss last week to Sidney, the Timberwolves look to get back in the win column this week on homecoming against Nishnabotna.

The Blue Devils are coming off of a 78-48 loss last week to CAM.

Southwest Valley will put much of the focus on shutting down Nishnabotna’s Andrew Welch, who is second in the district in rushing yards with 378.

The Timberwolves will also try to get their rushing attack back on track. Zach Barton, the team’s leading rusher, was held to 81 yards on 17 carries with no touchdowns.

Last season, Nishnabotna defeated Villisca, but lost to Corning. The win against Villisca was Nishnabotna’s only win in 2012.

CAM at Fremont-Mills

Both teams scored their first wins of the season for week two. Fremont-Mills defeated Whitling last week, 59-6, while CAM had the win against Nishnabotna.

The Knights will have to contend with Trace Ticknor and Dylan Amdor. Ticknor is coming off of a seven touchdown game (three passing, four rushing). Amdor has 182 yards on 46 carries thus far this season with three touchdowns.

For Fremont-Mills, they were able to spread the ball around, scoring six rushing touchdowns against Whitling. Spencer Phillips, the team’s leading rusher, finished with three touchdowns.

Lenox at Sidney

One of these two teams will be 2-1 in the district by the end of Friday night. The Cowboys handily won last year’s meeting with Lenox 49-6.

Lenox’s offense has been scoring plenty of points this season.  The Tigers lead the district in total points with 170. That is including the 64 points they scored in last week’s Stanton win.

Lenox’s defense could also play a key role in the game. They’ve allowed 40 points in three games.

Caleb Lange and Spencer Brown are two notable defenders for Lenox. Lange (five) and Brown (four) have a combined nine sacks this season. Lange had two sacks last week against Stanton.
