Friday Football: Class 2A Week 3 Preview
It’s week three of the high school football season and for those in Class 2A District 8, it will be the first district game this season.
Red Oak (0-2 overall, 0-0 district) at Odebolt-Arthur-Battle Creek-Ida Grove (2-0 overall, 0-0 district)- 7 p.m.
It’s the first Red Oak district game and it begins on the road. The Tigers are coming off a close loss last week at home to the Treynor Cardinals.
OA-BCIG meanwhile is coming off a 35-0 win against Cherokee. In last year’s meeting, Red Oak lost to OA-BCIG 52-12.
The Tigers are 0-3 all-time against OA-BCIG.
Red Oak’s rushing attack will be key for the game. Hayden VanMeter and Brock Isaacson are the top two running backs this season. VanMeter leads the team in rushing yards with 200. Isaacson has 136 yards on 33 carries. VanMeter scored both of his touchdowns last week and rushed for 141 yards.
Meanwhile, the Red Oak defense will have to contend with dual-threat quarterback Cash Wilcke.
Against Cherokee last week, Wilcke had three touchdowns (two rushing, one passing) and 306 total yards (207 passing and 99 rushing).
Shenandoah at Greene County
The Mustangs got in the win column last week when they defeated Riverside 24-7. Greene County meanwhile has lost their first two games this season (Perry in week 1 and North Polk last week).
Logan Roberts was key for Shenandoah last week as he scored two touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards against the Bulldogs.
Shenandoah won the meeting last year with Greene County, 31-12.
Mount Ayr at Clarinda
The Clarinda Cardinals are 0-2 to start the season and would like to avoid going 0-3. However, they'll need to get through Mount Ayr, who is coming off of wins against Bedford and Nodaway Valley.
Last season, Mount Ayr easily defeated Clarinda 48-7.
Kuemper Catholic at Clarinda Academy
After a close game in week 1, Kuemper Catholic got it together and easily defeated Denison-Schleswig last week, 44-6.
The Knights play a Clarinda Academy team that is coming off a 61-0 loss to East Mills.
