Friday Football: Red Oak home for OA-BCIG

OA-BCIG Falcons @ Red Oak Tigers- 7 p.m. @ Russ Benda Field in Red Oak

The Red Oak Tigers return to action Friday night at home as they play Oatebelt-Arthur Battle Creek-Ida Grove (OA-BCIG).

The Tigers are 0-2 to start their season. Their most recent loss was last Friday, 12-8, to Treynor.

OA-BCIG is coming off a win against Cherokee, Washington. They're 1-1 to start the 2012 season.

Red Oak will have their hands full with Falcons running back Trever Ryen. Ryen had 142 yards and five touchdowns in the win over Cherokee, Washington.

Several schools at a Division I level are reportedly interested in Ryen.

Quinn Westphal is another player for Red Oak to watch for. Westphal is the second half of OA-BCIG's running attack. Last week, Westphal ran for 120 yards on 10 carries.

Red Oak's running back by committee will be something to watch out for Friday night. Last week, Evan Mellott ran for 125 yards against Treynor. Nick Leinen, Eddie Perez and Dakota Petty will also be involved in this running back committee.

Greene County @ Shenandoah

The Mustangs are trying to recover from their 12-6 loss to Riverside in week 2. Meanwhile, Greene County is trying to avoid an 0-3 start.

Both teams have scored few points in their first two games. Both teams would prefer not to start their district season 0-1.

Clarinda @ Mount Ayr

It's the only non-district game of the week in Class 2A District 8. The Cardinals are trying to avoid starting the season 0-3.

Mount Ayr is looking to start their season 3-0. They have solid wins against Nodaway Valley and Bedford.

The player to watch for this game will be quarterback Jacob Sobotka. Sobotka had three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in their week two win against Bedford.

Clarinda Academy @ Kuemper Catholic

Kuemper Catholic is off to a hot start thus far, beating both Carroll and Denison-Schleswig.

Clarinda Academy was shut out last week by East Mills, 42-0. They no doubt would like to avoid the 0-3 start.
