Friday Football: Tigers take on St. Albert in Council Bluffs

It’s back to work for the Red Oak Tigers football team. They face a tough task Friday night though when they take on the St. Albert Falcons in Council Bluffs.

This will be the only non-district game for Class 2A District 8. A loss Friday night wouldn’t hurt Red Oak (2-4 overall, 2-2 district) in terms of the district standings.

However, they do have a home finale date with Kuemper Catholic next week.

Red Oak’s two wins will keep them in the playoff race. However, with both Shenandoah and Greene County right on the Tigers tail at 1-2, there could be a crowd in the fight for the third and fourth place spots in district 8.

Red Oak’s week three win over OA-BCIG could be very helpful, as the race gets tight during these final three regular season games.

Brock Isaacson has been a standout back for Red Oak this season. His 521 yards rushing is second most in district 8, behind Cash Wilcke of OA-BCIG.

Red Oak takes on a St. Albert team that has yet to lose a game. In fact, all but one of the Falcons wins was by double-digits. The closest game for St. Albert was week two when they defeated Lewis Central 35-28. St. Albert’s most recent win came last week when they defeated Treynor 59-0.

The Falcons have the highest scoring team in Class 1A District 8, recording 284 points this season.

Offensively, St. Albert has spread the ball around with different players stepping up at different times during the season. Last week, Jacob Bendgen had the big game with five rushing touchdowns and 125 yards. Bendgen has nine rushing touchdowns in the last two weeks.

Clarinda Academy at Shenandoah

The Mustangs have a chance to get back in the playoff race when they host Clarinda Academy. Shenandoah is coming off a shutout loss to Kuemper Catholic. A win over Clarinda Academy gets them to 2-2 in the district. With Clarinda and Red Oak the following weeks after, Shenandoah will likely need to win out to clinch a playoff berth.

A win over Clarinda Academy would also snap Shenandoah’s three game losing streak. Their last win was Sept. 13 against Greene County.

Clarinda Academy continues to struggle offensively. They scored six in last week’s loss to OA-BCIG.

Shenandoah won last year’s meeting 42-0.

Greene County at Clarinda

Clarinda continues their surprise run through districts this week as they host Greene County. After starting the season 0-3, Clarinda rebounded with wins over Clarinda Academy, OA-BCIG and Red Oak. They currently sit second in the district 8 as Kuemper Catholic holds the tiebreaker. Clarinda still has to play Shenandoah and Kuemper Catholic this season though.

Greene County meanwhile sits at 1-2 in the district. They’re coming off a win last week over Roland-Story. A win over Clarinda would put them right back in the district 8 playoff race. Their remaining games after Clarinda are against Clarinda Academy and OA-BCIG.

Greene County won last year’s meeting 28-21.

OA-BCIG at Kuemper Catholic

Kuemper Catholic continues to lead the district and will try to get to 4-0. First they’ll need to stop an OA-BCIG team that has won two of its last three games. Their most recent game was a 41-6 win over Clarinda Academy.

Kuemper Catholic won last year 44-2.
