Girls’ bowling strikes again, boys drop game to T.J.

COUNCIL BLUFFS – The Red Oak girls’ bowling team continued their winning ways with another big win Tuesday.

Janeese Raney and Brianna Nowels started the Tigers on the right foot bowling a 204 and 202 respectively, in their first game.

Ranney added 190 in her second game, totaling 394 which was the Tigers’ high score as an individual.

The Tigers’ first two Baker games totalled 341 before they dropped down to 137 and 128 in the third and fourth.

In the fifth and final game, the Tigers squeezed by the Yellow Jackets by only six pins, 2,335-2,329.

On the other side, the boys slipped, as a team, in the second individual game.

After having four bowlers scoring 200-plus game in the first round,  none repeated the feat in the second.

A.J. Lathrop led the way, rolling a 213 in his first individual game, followed up by a 199 in the second.

In the Baker round, the Tigers scored 189 in the first round, 181 in the third, and 204 in the fourth, but were not able to overcome their low individual second round, losing 2,843-2,763.

The Tigers next contest will be at Red Oak Lanes against St. Albert (Council Bluffs) Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Proceeding the game the Tigers will be recognizing Nowels, John Mertz, and Dylan Berry as their graduating seniors.

Saturday, the Red Oak Lanes are hosting the Tigers’ bowling regional tournament at noon.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams are hoping to earn another berth at the state tournament, which will be held in Des Moines, Feb. 27.

The top two teams at the regional tournament will continue on to state.

The state also invites the two top scoring second place teams from all of the regional tournaments.

Last season, the girls finished ninth in the state with a score of 2,457.

The state champions scored 3,062 (boys) and 2,847 (girls) to take the title in 2009.
