Girls finish in eighth place

DES MOINES — The Red Oak girls' bowling team took eighth place at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) State Bowling Tournament at the Plaza Lanes in Des Moines Thursday afternoon.

Red Oak bowled a 1,697 in the individual games and an 809 during the baker games.

Their 2,506 score was just short of their goal of 2,600.

Shelby Storesund led the way for Red Oak with a 354 series and 190 high game.

Storesund's 354 series was 24th for the Tigers.

“We all did the best we could,” Storesund said. “We almost made our goal.”

Storesund made it a goal to do better than her average.

“I was just hoping we'd all just do the best we could and we'd all do pretty much the same,” she said.

Storesund credits Coach Darrell Berry with some of her improvements, raising her average by 30 pins this year.

“He's kept us together and cheered us on the whole way,” Storesund said. “He's a big help.”
For next year, Storesund plans to keep practicing and hitting her marks.

Kristi Yardas wasn't far behind, finishing with a 348 series and 185 high game, taking 26th place individually.

Hilary Jackson's 341 series was 31st and Kelsey Myers was 37th with a 330 series.

Janeese Ranney took 42nd place and Jayden Hilding finished in 57th.

Storesund said she'll enjoy being with her teammates and cheering them on during the season.

Dubuque Wahlert won the 1A team title with a score of 2,914.

Newton finished second with a score of 2,698.

West Delaware was third with 2,659. Keokuk finished fourth with 2,650 and Creston was fifth with 2,651.

Red Oak finished ahead of Le Mars and Waverly-Shell Rock, occupying the final spots in the top 10.
