Go Cart accident critically injures two-year-old

RED OAK — A two-year-old boy is in an Omaha hospital with life threatening injuries after a Go Cart accident Monday night.

Ryan Soar, of Red Oak, was transported by life flight to Omaha about 9:15 p.m. Monday, following the accident in the 700 block of E. Grimes.

According to Police Chief Drue Powers, Soar was a passenger on the Go Cart, driven by his father Shawn Michael Soar, 35. Shawn Soar apparently drove the Go Cart into the front of a 1987 Mazda pickup truck owned by Laura Olson that was legally parked in the 700 block of E. Grimes.

Shawn Soar also suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.

Powers said it is illegal to operate a Go Cart on city streets. However, he said additional charges are expected against Soar as alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the accident.

The police department is handling the accident investigation, and was assisted at the scene by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Red Oak Fire/Rescue Department.
