Golf Recap: SWV girls pick up first win of season

CORNING — The Southwest Valley girls golf team picked up its first win of the season last Monday at the Happy Hollow Country Club, winning 203-262 over CAM.

Kim Hults was the medalist, while Taylor Damewood claimed the runner-up in the meet on a tiebreaker. Hults shot a 49 to lead the Timberwolves. Damewood had a 51, as did Allie Bronner.

Bellamy Heaton and Janelle Gibler were both close with 52s, while Kiara Roberts shot a 56.

The boys meanwhile lost a close meet to CAM 204-210.

Ryan Carlson was the medalist for Southwest Valley as he led all golfers with a 44. Cole Swenson had a 48, while Joey Kernen shot a 57. 

Cody Birt had a 61, Jarod Shires shot a 63 and Jeff Walton finished with a 67.

The boys team also lost a close meet last Tuesday against East Union 172-181.

Carlson was the runner-up for Southwest Valley as he shot a 40. 

Lane Peterson shot a 42, while Swenson finished with a 48. Scott Vanderhoof had a 51, while Shires shot a 53. Kernen finished with a 67.

The girls shot a 202 against East Union, however the Eagles had one golfer and therefore didn’t record a team score.

Damewood was the medalist for the Timberwolves as she shot a 47. 

Heaton was the runner-up after a tiebreaker when she shot a 50. Hults also shot a 50.

Bronner shot a 55, while Roberts finished with a 58 and Gibler recorded a 61.

Griswold vs. Missouri Valley

The Griswold boys’ golf team began the season last Monday with a 164-185 win at Missouri Valley.

James Reynolds, who shot a 37, was the medalist for the meet, while Treigh Oakleaf shot a 40 to claim the runner-up. Tyler Wyman shot a 43, while Jake Reynolds finished with a 44.

Joe Schoning shot a 48 and Jacob Lewis finished with a 49.

The girls recorded a team score of 220 as Missouri Valley had one golfer and didn’t record a team score.

Hattie Dalke and Marlia Rossell both led with 50s. Reagan Whitehill shot a 56, while Karley Keiser had a 64. Mateya Peters shot a 70 for the meet.
