Griswold finishes third at state golf

 MARSHALLTOWN — The Griswold boys golf team left Marshalltown with a little extra hardware after finishing third at Saturday’s 1A State Golf Meet at the American Legion Golf Course.

Griswold posted a two-day team score of 644, one shot behind runner-up Grundy Center. Bishop Garrigan won the state title as they recorded a 623.

The Tigers entered the final day sitting fourth in the standings. The team shot a 315, tied for highest with two other teams on the day, to secure their spot in the top three. They shot a 329 on the first day.

Griswold had one golfer place in the top 10 as James Reynolds finished in a three-way tie for 10th along with East Buchanan’s Hunter Schulte and Dunkerton’s Jordan Kubitz, shooting a two-day score of 155. Reynolds shot a 79 on the first day and a 76 for the second.

Chris Cooksley of East Buchanan won the state title when he shot a 147. Josh McCormick of Alta-Aurelia was runner-up.

Jake Reynolds was the next finisher for Griswold as he had an 85 the first day and a 79 the second to post a score of 164.

Tyrel Peters also had a 164 as he had an 84 on the first day and an 80 for the second.

Tyler Wyman shot a 168, with an 88 the first day and an 80 for the second.

Treighton Oakleaf shot a 172 for his tournament (81 the first day and 91 the second).

Morgan Kimpson was the final finisher for Griswold as he shot a 92 for the first day and a 90 the second to record a 182.
