Griswold gets first playoff win since ‘89

GRISWOLD — The Griswold Tigers got their first postseason win in more than 20 years when they defeated Woodward-Granger last Wednesday in the first round of the Class A football playoffs at home.

Griswold (7-3 overall),  won the game 46-0, making the win their second shutout this season.

The Tigers have now won six of their last seven games.

Kenneth Clary and Taylor Briles combined for 373 yards and six touchdowns in Griswold’s first postseason win since 1989.

Clary had 24 carries for 182 yards and four touchdowns, while Briles had 191 yards on 18 carries for two touchdowns.

Caleb Schaaf had the other touchdown in the game for Griswold as he caught a 10 yard pass from quarterback Devin Bates. Schaaf also had 49 yards rushing on six carries.

Defensively, three Tigers had nine tackles, including Austin Lorenz, who also recorded a sack.

Josh Metheny and Collin Fast also recorded nine tackles in the win, while BJ Schoning had eight.

Griswold played another team from Woodward, this time Woodward-Granger Monday night.

Should Griswold win, they would be making their first quarterfinals appearance in the state playoffs since 1988.
