Griswold girls get first round win at Underwood

UNDERWOOD – The Griswold girls’ basketball team took advantage of a 20-point first quarter to advance on to the regional tournament quarterfinals.

Jenny Mortensen carried the offensive load for the Tigers, scoring 23 points. Ali Sindt helped in the winning effort as she scored 18, pulling down six rebounds. Lauren Moore also had six rebounds, three offensive.

The two teams split the regular season series as Underwood squeaked a 56-54 win in the first, followed by a 49-37 drumming Griswold put on the Eagles in the rematch.

Sindt and Mortensen led the way for the Tigers in both of the first two games, combining for 34 in the first and 37 in the second game.

The Tigers finished their regular season 7-12, led by Sindt who averaged 11.7 points per game. Mortensen and Shelby Conry led the Tigers with 118 and 109 rebounds respectively. Mortensen pulled down 66 of her 118 on the offensive side of the courts.

Griswold has a tall task ahead of them as they travel to Manning Tuesday, to face the 10th-ranked IKM-Manning Wolves.

The Wolves advanced easily, beating Tri-Center, Neola 80-56. IKM-Manning had four players in double digits, led by Kaylee Blake, who had 18.
