Griswold rebounds with win against CAM

 GRISWOLD — The Griswold softball team got back on track last Tuesday when they defeated CAM 7-1.

The win came the day after Griswold was swept in a doubleheader against Logan-Magnolia.

The Tigers recorded 10 hits as they scored all seven of their runs in three of the first four innings, including four in the second to take a 4-1 lead.

Payton Rush had a big hitting day as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Jackie Rush, meanwhile, went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs.

Marlia Rossell got the win for Griswold as she tossed a complete game, allowing one run on two hits and striking out eight. Rossell also went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI.

Hannah Willms was 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Hannah Misner went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Kinzey Nicklaus went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

In the doubleheader against Logan-Magnolia last Monday, Griswold lost game one 6-1 and game two 14-2.

In the first game, the Tigers trailed 3-1 after three innings. They were within striking distance until the sixth inning when Logan-Magnolia tacked on three more runs.

Griswold was held to two hits in the first game. Mandi Backhaus scored the only run as she was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Misner had the other hit as she went 1-for-3.

In game two, Logan-Magnolia jumped out to a 6-1 lead and stayed ahead for the remainder of the five innings.

Payton Rush was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Willms was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Hannah Boucher scored the other run as a courtesy runner.

Griswold baseball

The Tigers lost 17-14 last Tuesday to CAM in nine innings.

The two teams went back and forth for much of the game.

CAM took the early 4-1 lead. They scored three more in the top of the fourth to make it 7-1. 

Griswold rallied back, scoring one in the bottom half of the fourth and three more in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5. CAM scored three runs in the top of the sixth to make it 10-5.

The Tigers weren’t done as they rallied back to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth and make it 10-10. 

Both teams scored two runs in the seventh inning as the game went to extras.

CAM struck first by scoring five runs in the ninth to make it 17-12. Griswold tried to rally back, but managed only two runs.

Hayden Ogg stepped up big for the Tigers by going 4-for-6 with a double, four runs scored and two RBIs.

Jake Reynolds was 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI.

James Reynolds meanwhile went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Joe Schoning also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base and two RBIs.

Mason Boucher was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three more driven in, while Drake Rieber was 2-for-6 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

The Tigers also lost their doubleheader to Logan-Magnolia, falling 7-5 and 18-8.

In the 7-5 loss, Logan Magnolia scored four runs in the sixth to take control of the game.

Jake Reynolds went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.

The 18-8 loss came in six innings as Logan-Magnolia scored early and often.

Jake Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Rieber was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a RBI.

Boucher, James Reynolds and Jacob Dickinson each had a hit in the game.
