Griswold remains winless after Clarinda Tournament

CLARINDA — The Griswold Tigers went winless at the Clarinda Tournament on Saturday.

Griswold lost to Villisca, 25-16, 26-28 and 15-10.

The Tigers lost to St. Albert 21-12 and 21-11, and to Clarinda 21-12 and 21-6.

Finally, Griswold lost to Nishnabotna, 21-12 and 21-15.

Griswold lost at Villisca, to the Blue Jays last Tuesday night, 3-0.
The Tigers got to within one-point of the lead in the first game, but were outscored 15-5, as the Blue Jays won 25-14.

Griswold hung with Villisca in the second game and even had a opportunity to win the game with a 24-22 lead. However, the Blue Jays tied it up and kept their chances of winning the second game alive. Villisca won the second game, 29-27.

Griswold took an early lead in the third game, but the Blue Jays rallied to take it back and build upon the lead. The Tigers hung in there as they chipped away at a 17-11 Villisca lead, scoring seven of the next 12 points. A serving ace by Rossell cut the Blue Jays’ lead to 22-19. The Tigers scored two more points, but fell short, losing the game 25-21.

Rossell and Howell each had six kills to lead Griswold.

Rachel Denne had a big night for the Tigers as she led the team with 13 digs and four serving aces.

Freund once again led the Tigers in assists, collecting 14 of the team's 17 for the match.

Griswold will be home for the weekend. On Friday, Griswold will take on Cumberland Anita Massena (CAM).

Then on Saturday, the Tigers will host the Griswold Tournament, which will feature many schools from around Southwest Iowa.
