High school students, families invited to Northwest visit day

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University’s Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Information Systems will host its annual Computing Visit Day Saturday, Oct. 6.

The event is designed for high school students from throughout the four-state region interested in preparing for a variety of computing-related careers.

The day allows students to meet faculty, students and graduates of the program. Visitors will engage in exciting hands-on activities, see student projects and demonstrations and hear graduates talk about their careers in computing. Youth and their families also will have a chance to tour the Northwest campus, including its computing facilities. Additionally, attendees will learn about National Science Foundation scholarships that are awarded to talented, yet financially disadvantaged students pursuing baccalaureate degrees in computer science or interactive digital media-computer science.

One $1,150 scholarship to attend Northwest will be offered to a Computing Visit Day participant. Applications will be available online and at the event.

The day’s activities will begin at 9:30 a.m. with light refreshments in Colden Hall and conclude with a complimentary lunch. The event concludes at 1 p.m. with optional campus tours afterward. Students and families who wish to participate in Computing Visit Day at Northwest should register online at nwmissouri.edu by Wednesday, Oct. 3.
