Carroll gets by Red Oak in boys soccer

Carroll jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 7-0 victory over Red Oak in non-conference boys soccer at Russ Benda Field in Red Oak Friday.
“The Carroll Tigers traveled to Red Oak to take on the Red Oak Tigers. The last couple of games we played have been great weather and today it was windy and cold,” said Coach Mark Kells.
“The two teams played to a stalemate for most of the first half until Carroll found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. That goal opened the floodgates with goals following in the 12th, 11th, 8th and second minutes to take a 5-0 lead into half.
“After halftime we flipped the field, and the guys came out aggressive not quitting and giving everything they had against a balanced Carroll Tigers team,” said Coach Kells.
Carroll added goals at 39th minute and the 23rd minute to complete the scoring.
“I felt like we had great energy tonight. However, just some unlucky breaks on the pitch that could have gone either way for both teams,” said Kells.
Kaden Conn had nine saves in goal for Red Oak.

Underwood 10,
Red Oak 0

Easton Robertson scored four goals to lead Underwood to a 10-0 victory over Red Oak in non-conference boys soccer last Tuesday.
The Eagles found the back of the net in the first minute of the game and then added seven more goals in the first half.
“We battled with the Eagles; we just couldn’t manage to produce any offense once we possessed the ball,” said Red Oak coach Mark Kells.
After halftime the Tigers had the wind at their back but couldn’t turn it to their  advantage despite controlling possession in the second half.
Underwood gook a 9-0 lead 12 minutes into the second half and closed the game out in the 21st minute.
“We had some shots, we just couldn’t find the back of the net when we had the chance,” Kells said.  “The guys are trying every game and that’s all I can ask for and battle to the end.”
Luis Alcozer and Chase Ogle added two goals and Connor Brummett and Jose Sibrain each added goals for the Eagles.
Wyatt Roberts had 10 saves in goal for Red Oak.

Creston 7,
Red Oak 1

Creston knocked off Red Oak 7-1 in Hawkeye 10 Conference boys soccer last Monday.
“After coming off a big win Thursday I thought we could bounce back against another Hawkeye 10 opponent and maybe get that second win,” said Red Oak coach Mark Kells.
In the first 30 minutes, a Red Oak defensive breakdown led to the Panthers’ first goal. The Tigers battled for the next eight minutes, but Creston found the back of the net at the 32nd minute to take a 2-0 lead.
Kells said his team played aggressively but just lacked some communication that led to goals in the 17th,13th and 9th minute marks to take a 5-0 lead into halftime.
After halftime the Tigers came out strong, but the Panthers added to their lead at the 34th minute to extend their lead to 6-0.
The Tigers found the back of the net late in the second half when Nolan Case booted in a goal off a Tyler Myers assist.
“I thought the guys played exceptionally well tonight even though the score didn’t dictate it,” Kells said.  “If we communicate with each other a little more the outcome may have been different.”
Wyatt Roberts had 13 saves in goal for Red Oak.
