Red Oak boys third, girls fourth at H-10 south meet

The Red Oak boys finished third in the team standings and the girls were fifth at the Hawkeye 10 Southern Division Track and Field Meet on a cold and windy night in Creston last Tuesday.
The Glenwood boys captured the team title with 115 points to easily outpace runner-up Clarinda’s 74 points. The Tigers finished with 70 points for third.
“We were really excited to get the outdoor season started and boys did so well,” said Red Oak coach Sueann French. “We tried some new things and saw some good results.”
Cale Hall had a big night for the Tigers, winning three gold medals and tying the 1973 school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.89. Hall went on to take first in the 200 as well with a personal record time of 22.18.
Hall joined Ethan Fouts, Osiel Pedersen and Emmanuel Grass to win the distance medley relay.
The Tigers’ 4x800-meter relay team of Grass, Pedersen, Hayden Hietbrink and Reese Montgomery also won gold with a time of 8:41.94.
“Our 4x800 (team) had a great night again picking up from what we did last year, just need to get in better shape and get our times down,” said Red Oak boys coach Sueann French.
Grass added gold in the 1,600-meters and Montgomery in the 800-meters.
On the girls side, Clarina won the team crown with 128 points. Glenwood was second with 117 points.
Competing in their first outdoor meet of the season, the Red Oak’s girls tallied nine points.
“We are very excited for the start of the season,” said Red Oak girls coach Abigail Ellsworth. “They worked very hard tonight.”
Jocelyn O’Neal was the Tigers’ top medal-winner with a third place showing in the 400-meters and a fourth-place finish in the long jump.
The sprint medley relay team of Natalie Johnson, Leya Walker, Cate Horn and Gillian Heim were sixth with a time of 2:16.38.
