Timberwolves clinch conference title

The Southwest Valley volleyball team clinched the Pride of Iowa Conference championship with victories over Martensdale St. Marys and Wayne in a road triangular in Martensdale last Tuesday.
 The Class 1A, No. 14 ranked Timberwolves (20-3 overall, 8-0 in the conference) swept St. Marys 25-7, 25-15 and Wayne 25-12, 25-10 to wrap up regular season conference play with a perfect record and the top seed in this week’s conference tournament. The sweep marks 10 straights win for Southwest Valley.
“The team has worked on being consistent and disciplined this season,” said Southwest Valley coach Lisa Sparks. “We have worked on building trust with each other and really playing as a team. They play for each other and want team success. There is still more volleyball to play and goals to meet, so we will work on being focused in the last few weeks of regular season play.”
 In the win over St. Marys, Marley Gray led the way with five kills with Mackenzie Fast and Katey Lillie added four apiece. Morgan Shuler had 16 set assists to with five digs.
Against Wayne, Lillie led the way with five kills and Shuler added 12 assists. Maddie Bevington had a great match at the service line with 10 ace serves. Lillie had a team high 5 digs.
