Timberwolves third, fifth at Clarke meet

The Southwest Valley boys were third and the girls fifth at the Clarke Co-ed Meet in Osceola Thursday.
Chariton won the boys team title with 138 points. Creston was second in the team standings followed by Southwest Valley.
The Timberwolf boys were led by a first place finish from its shuttle hurdle relay and second place showings from Brody Crozier (200-meters, long jump), Wyatt Mendenhall (400-meter hurdles) and Walker Bissell (high jump).
Van Meter was the girls champion with a score of 146. The Timberwolves tallied 26 points for fifth.
Mackenzie Richards won the shot put with a top throw of 34 feet, 2.5 inches and the 4x800-meter relay team was second.

Stanton girls, SW Valley boys fourth at Panther
Invitational
Creston topped the field on the girls side and Mount Ayr won the boys title at the Panther Invitational Co-ed Meet in Creston last Monday.
The host Panthers won eight events and finished with 178 points to easily outpace runner up Atlantic’s 120 points. Stanton was fourth with 67 points.
The Viqueens’ Hannah Olson (100-meter hurdles), Lauren Johnson (long jump) and their sprint medley and shuttle hurdle relays all won gold.
Southwest Valley’s girls tallied 14 points. Mackenzie Richards captured a second place finish in the shot put with a top throw of 33 feet.
On the boys side, Mount Ayr won seven events as part of their 58-point night. The boys meet was only scored for first, second and third.
The Southwest Valley boys tallied 18 points. The Timberwolves’ distance medley relay topped the field while Brody Crozier (200-meters) and Ian Forsythe (800) and their 4x200-meter relay all finished second.
“We saw a number of great performances tonight from our Timberwolves,” said Southwest Valley coach Jason Hults. “With the cold, windy weather tonight, the kids really went out and performed well, and those performances will really improve in the next few weeks as we start to hopefully get some nicer weather for track meets.  Our younger boys really stepped up tonight filling in some roles that normally would be filled by upperclassmen that were gone to the State FFA convention, and we are really proud of their efforts tonight.”
Stanton was led by Rylan Grebin’s second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
