Timberwolves win on senior night

Southwest Valley pulled away in the second half to defeat Pride of Iowa Conference rival Martensdale-St. Marys 54-44 in in Corning Friday.
The victory, combined with a Central Decatur loss to Nodaway Valley, put the Timberwolves alone in third place with an 11-5 conference record. This was a historic game as it was the last conference game for Martensdale-St. Marys, who is leaving the Pride of Iowa Conference at the conclusion of this school year.
The Timberwolves led 21-17 at the half but outscored the Blue Devils 33-27 over the final two quarters to secure the win.
Southwest Valley’s Ada Lund, Mackenzie Fast and Hailey Randall were honored on Senior Night with all three scoring in double figures.  Randall became the third player in Southwest Valley history to record over 1,000 points, scoring 17 to give her 1,016 for her career.  She was honored by the team and crowd after the game.  Lund had 11 points and 5 steals.  Fast contributed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
“What a night for our Seniors and the encouragement they received from their younger teammates,” said Southwest Valley coach Mike Cormack. “I have had the honor to coach Ada Lund, Mackenzie Fast and Hailey Randall for four incredible seasons.  As great as they are on the court, they are even better off of it.  We are going to keep fighting as a team to send these Seniors out strong and can’t be prouder of them, both in individual and team success.”
Lydia Forsythe nearly had another double-double for the Timberwolves, with 12 points and eight rebounds in a great game.
