Wolverines sweep Viqueens


Class 1A, No. 6 ranked East Mills recorded its 15th straight victory with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-16 sweep of Stanton in Corner Conference volleyball last Tuesday in Malvern.
The Wolverines (28-3 overall, 6-1 in the conference) smacked down 37 kills while hitting .238 as a team in their second victory of the season over the Viqueens.
“We passed the ball really well tonight and stayed aggressive on offense and defense,” said East Mills coach Connie Viner.
Loycee Palmer notched 10 kills and added 14 digs.
Ava Grindle and Ellie Hagen had seven kills each while Caitlyn Crouse and Shaylee Stiverson added four blocks each. The Viqueens (11-19 overall, 3-4 in the conference) struggled with consistency in its attack in the loss, recording 14 kills in 96 attempts.
“The Viqueens showed grit and determination throughout the match,” said Stanton coach John Mainquist. “East Mills played really well tonight, serving aggressively. I’m proud of how our girls kept fighting. We had some great defensive moments and started finding our rhythm towards the end.”
Brynn Williams and Venna Sayers had 15 set assists each.
Addy Gettler paced the Viqueens with six kills. Haylee Joint had 12 digs and three assists.
