Iowa DOR eFile website now operational

Effective Jan. 17, 2012, Iowa taxpayers may now file their income tax returns online through the Department’s e-File website.

When you file electronically your refund is issued in days, compared to weeks for returns filed on paper. eFiling is fast, safe, and easy. Join 85 percent of Iowans who filed this way in 2010.

Visit www.iowa.gov/tax for details, and see if you may be eligible to file your federal and Iowa income tax returns together for free.

Expands Service Hours  

The Department has expanded telephone and e-mail customer service hours during January from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Walk-in customers will continue to be served Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 pm.

Telephone and e-mail service hours will return to 8 a.m-4:30 p.m. on Feb. 1.

Automatic Mailing

With the continued growth of electronic filing, the Iowa Department of Revenue (IDR) will no longer automatically mail paper income tax forms and instruction booklets to individual taxpayers beginning with tax year 2011.

Still want paper? Options include:

* Forms and instructions are available online at www.iowa.gov/tax. Many online forms are fillable.  

* Request a form by e-mail at IowaTaxForms@Iowa.gov  

* Request a form by mail - Iowa Department of Revenue; P.O. Box 10460; Des Moines IA 50306-0460  

* Pick up a booklet at the IDR office on the 4th floor of the Hoover State Office Building, located at 1305 E. Walnut in Des Moines
