Issues with Evergreen’s width continue for board

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors are looking at options for Evergreen Ave..

At the meeting June 25, the supervisors met with Loren Taylor with the Montgomery County Secondary Roads Department. Taylor said it’s still on the priority list as a road to reshape.

“I think we can do the reshaping without having to move any of the Centurylink lines or do much extra. I’ve not heard any conflicts from Centurylink,” Taylor said.

Taylor said he anticipated doing a half a mile a day, with reshaping and rocking. As the project progresses, he would anticipate they could do more in a day.

“If I get enough of these FEMA projects done, I’m tentatively looking at starting the project in August, but I can’t set a date yet. If we hadn’t had the issues we had this spring, I’d probably have most of it done by now. We’ll move north to south,” said Taylor.

Taylor was anticipating reshaping the road to roughly 30 feet, with a tapered shoulder.

Supervisor Bryant Amos suggested that the area residents know that there would be extra material available.

“If we have any driveways that need widened, or field entrances, we can use the extra material there and benefit them also,” Amos said.

Supervisors Chairman Mike Olson felt that 30 feet was a better distance than the DOT recommendation of 28 feet.

“Equipment has grown exponentially over the years. With a 30-foot travel base and sloped shoulders, that will still give the road a width of around 40 feet. It’s something that has to be done, and it’s something that should have been done years ago,” commented Olson.

The supervisors also supported the selection of United Farmers Cooperative as the low quote for the county’s fuel, upon the recommendation of the secondary roads department.

In other business, the supervisors:

• Approved a 201-20 agreement between Nishna Productions Inc. and Montgomery County for cleaning services in the amount of $1,487.99 per month.
