Iva-Dell Shook, 85

Iva-Dell Beatrice Shook, 85, Red Oak, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at the Stanton Care Center.

Iva-Dell was born May 11, 1928, in Macedonia, the daughter of Charles and Alma (Williams) Achenbaugh. She graduated from Macedonia High School in 1947 and started working at Houghton State Bank.

She married Jehu F. “Hugh” Shook April 29, 1949, in Red Oak. They lived all of their married life in Red Oak.

Iva-Dell was a homemaker, and when the kids were older, she worked at the Redemption Center.  She loved sewing and reading her Bible, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Hugh, Sept. 1, 1992; brothers, Paul and James Achenbaugh; and sisters, Anna Daniel and Lorraine Markey.

Survivors include her daughters, Donna Higgins of Red Oak and Julie Young and husband Monte of Prior Lake, Minn.; grandchildren, Megan-Marie Shook of Louisville, Ky., Joshua Hughes, Jessica Akers and Brandon Higgins, all of Red Oak; step-grandchildren, Lindsay Letterman and husband Nick and Jenny Sermersheim and husband Justin of Jasper, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Hailey-Sirena Binns, Jordyn, Jade, Gregor, and Cecilia Hughes, Christopher Akers, Clay and Clara Letterman, Ellie Knies and Dylan Sermersheim; sisters, Joan Petersen and husband Wesley of Dalhart, Texas, Virginia Nicoski of Lenexa, Kan. and Irene Ulmer of Woodbine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association or the Heartland Hospice.
