James T. Askey, 79
James T. Askey, 79, of Red Oak, died Dec. 3, 2009, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
James T. Askey was born July 11, 1930, in Montgomery County, the son of Robert Clark and Dorothy Ann (Lloyd) Askey. He attended school in Coburg until the age of nine when the family moved to Red Oak. He graduated from Red Oak High School in the class of 1949. Jim then served in the United States Navy for one year returning to Red Oak where he started working for Union Carbide Battery Company. He moved to Loveland, Colorado where he worked for an implement dealer as a mechanic and married Wilma Mitchell in 1954. Jim married Donna Foes Shrum on Jan. 14, 1966, in Omaha, Neb. Jim was a former member and officer of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife: Wilma Askey; brothers: Clarke, Thomas, and Donald Askey; sisters: Virginia Askey and Roberta Moore; son: Donald Shrum; and grandson: Shane Shrum.
Survivors include his wife: Donna Askey of Red Oak; children: Deb (Kelvin) Kirchner of Braddyville; Pam Miller formerly of the Red Oak and Stanton area; Charles (Deb) Shrum of Villisca; and Mike (Linda) Askey of Red Oak; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Ed (Jean) Moore of Shenandoah, and Richard Foes of Junction City, Kan.
Memorial services were held Dec. 7 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Lamb officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery.
