Kathryn Lawson, 93

Kathryn M. Lawson, 93, Stanton, formerly of Brooklyn, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at the Stanton Care Center.

Kathryn Margaret Pfantz, the daughter of Lawrence Fred and Marietta (Teeters) Pfantz was born Aug. 25, 1920, in State Center. She attended State Center High School, graduating in 1939.

Kathryn married John Walter “Jack” Lawson Feb. 22, 1941, in State Center. Following Jack’s return from the United States Navy after World War II, they moved to Brooklyn. Kathryn and Jack had four children, John, Pamela, Michael and Mary.

Kathryn was the owner and manager of the historic Hotel Brooklyn for many years until retiring in 2005.  Kathryn loved to bake and cook. She was an avid sports fan of any Iowa football, basketball and baseball team. She was a fine athlete in her own right, playing golf for many years. Kathryn was the 1960 Club Champion of the Brooklyn-Victor Country Club.

Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Lawson Dec. 3, 1965; a brother, Richard, who died an infant; a brother, James Leroy; and grandson, Jeffrey Alan Rodriguez.

She is survived by her four children, John Walter Lawson II (Arlene) of San Diego, Pamela Ann Nail of Brooklyn, Michael Lawrence Lawson (Fran) of Stanton and Mary Donelda Lawson-Parinelli (Alan) of Cypress, Texas; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Irene Davis (Robert) of Walla Walla, Wash.; and a brother, Lawrence Junior Pfantz of State Center.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.
