To The Editor:
In recent discussion about a new radio system for Montgomery County, one of the proponents of the project asked how many people have cars or computers that are 20 years old. To answer his question, I do. My new car is 28 years old (the other is 31), and the computer I use most – which I’m using to write this letter – is about 20 years old. I have another perfectly functional microcomputer that is about 40 years old (in fact I have three of them, two of which I built from kits), and I have a couple dozen other functioning computers here not in use that are 20 or more years old, including every model of IBM PS/2 except the model 33, an IBM AS/400 and a DEC VAX.
