Lois P. Keener, 87

Lois Pauline Keener, 87, of Sacramento, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
She was born the daughter of Paul and Mabel Lathrop, in Pilot Grove Township, Montgomery County, on Nov. 22, 1922. She attended Immanuel School of Nursing in Omaha, Neb. and soon after graduating as a Registered Nurse joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Pauline was a proud patriot and veteran who served in the Philippines during World War II. After the war, she married Robert L. Keener in Hiawatha, Kan. and then moved to Medford, Ore. where she worked in surgery at a local hospital. They raised three daughters in Torrance, Calif., where she lived for 43 years. Pauline was a dedicated homemaker, who taught her children the arts of sewing and cooking and instilled in them a love of learning.
Pauline spent the last seven years of her life in the care of family and friends from Clarksburg, while residing in the Asian Community Center Nursing Home. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and her love of our country.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her daughter, Shawnee.
Pauline is survived by her sisters Mary Helen Peterson of Elliott, and Frances Carlson of Red Oak, daughters Linda McGregor of Clarksburg, Calif., and Paula Riordan and her husband Phil of Monterey, Calif., and dear friend Helen Serry of Glendora, Calif. She has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to either the ACC Nursing Home in Sacramento or the Clarksburg Community Church Building Fund. A memorial service will be held Sept. 18, 2010, 11 a.m. at the Walteria United Methodist Church, Torrance.
