Lois Reeves, 89

Lois VanMeter Reeves, 89, of Red Oak, passed away at Good Samaritan on May 24, 2011.

Lois Irene VanMeter Reeves was born to  Stephen and Viola Mae (Cooper) Lundy on Nov. 9, 1921, in Shenandoah. She was the oldest of 11 children.

The family lived in various communities in Southwest Iowa while their father worked as a farm hand, but eventually settled in Sidney where Lois graduated from high school in 1940.

Lois worked at Crawford's Funeral Home, caring for the children during services.
She married George Henry VanMeter on Sept. 1, 1940, and they made their home in Shenandoah until moving to Harlan, Iowa. George worked on a farm and Lois was a cook for the helping hands. While in Harlan, their son, Thomas Harold, was born. They also lived in Randolph and Tabor and in Malvern for 20 years. George passed away Nov. 7, 1968.  

Afterward, Lois attended cosmetology school, first in Nebraska City, then in Lincoln, Neb.  She then returned to Nebraska City to work in a beauty salon.  

Lois and Anderson Reeves were married on November 9, 1975, in Sidney, Iowa.
She started her own salon, Midway Beauty Salon, in her home in Sidney in 1983.

Later, Lois and Anderson moved to Pacific Junction, Iowa and Lois was a member of the Pacific Junction Methodist Church.

In 1991, Anderson passed away and in 1992, Lois moved to Glenwood.  
Due to her health, she moved to the Red Oak Good Samaritan Home in 2009.
Lois loved working in her beauty salon, gardening and sewing. She adored her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George VanMeter; husband, Anderson Reeves; infant brother, Glen Lundy; and brothers, Marvin, Lorin and William Lundy.    

Lois is survived by her son, Harold (Janice) Van Meter, of Red Oak; grandchildren, Christine (Dwayne) Adams and Brian (Tammi) VanMeter, all of Emerson; great-grandchildren, Heather and Shane Adams and Hayden and Katie VanMeter, all of Emerson; sisters, Helen Boomer, of Glenwood, and Linda (Wayne) Moyer, of Riverton, Iowa; brothers, Robert (Jerri) Lundy, of Calif., Duane (Doris) Lundy, of Valley, Neb., Jim (Ruth) Lundy, of Glenwood and Darrell (Sherrie) Lundy, of Glenwood; sisters-in-law, Peggy Lundy, of Pacific Junction and Betty Lundy, of Ark.; step-children and step-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

Graveside services took place Friday, May 27, 2011, at the Randolph Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home of Malvern is in charge of arrangements.
