Loretta Cable, 80

Loretta Cable, 80, of Griswold, passed away Monday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2011, at Bryan LGH Hospital in Lincoln, Neb.

Loretta Mae Brouse was born to Arthur LeRoy and Pearl Ivis (Stover) Brouse April 20, 1931, in Griswold. She attended Griswold schools, graduating in 1949, and married Dean Curtis Cable  June 19, 1949,  at Griswold United Methodist Church.

In 1950-51, she worked for Iowa Power. From 1951-1953, Dean served in the Army at Ft. Lee, Va., and during that time, Loretta worked Civil Service. Following his discharge, they lived at Silver Spring, Md., and while Dean went to school at the National Institute of Drycleaning, Loretta worked in the Alumni Office. Then they moved to Council Bluffs and Omaha, where Loretta worked for Mutual of Omaha. In August 1955, they moved to Chattanooga, Tenn., and lived there until 1963. During that time, Loretta was secretary of St. John’s Methodist Church. When they returned to Griswold, she and Dean operated the Griswold Cleaners and Bon-Ton Cleaners in Red Oak. In 1976, she went back to Iowa Power (now Mid-America Energy), retiring  December 1992.

Loretta moved to Griswold Assisted Living four years ago and was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church and the Griswold American Legion Auxiliary.

Preceding Loretta in death were her parents in 1977; husband of nearly 50 years, Dean, on Jan. 14, 1999; brother, Lloyd Brouse, in 2009; and nephews, John (in 1974) and Dan (in 2009) Rush.

Survivors include her sons, Michael (Terri) Cable, of Danville, Calif., Alan (Judy) Cable, of Lincoln, Neb., and Steven (Joan) Cable, of Waunakee, Wis.; six grandchildren, Megan and Allison, of Danville, Teresa, of Orlando, Fla., Laura, of Lincoln, and Brett (Julie) and Jason, both of Waunakee; and sister, Phyllis (George) Rush, of Griswold.

Funeral services took place Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Griswold United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Griswold Cemetery. Open visitation was at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold with the family present Friday evening.
