Luella Eshelman, 87

Luella F. “Lu” Eshelman, 87, of Red Oak, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society.  

Luella Frances “Lu” Eshelman was born to George and Lela (Fisher) Helberg April 27, 1924, near Villisca.

She attended country school and later worked for Berry Seed Company in Clarinda and then the Lisle Manufacturing Company.  

Luella was united in marriage to Robert Eshelman Nov. 21, 1953, in Maryville, Mo. They moved to Red Oak in 1957.  

Lu was a homemaker and worked at the Murphy Calendar Company for 10 years. She enjoyed her time after that, taking care of all of her grandkids. Lu also enjoyed crocheting, camping, traveling and spending time with family.

Lu was a long time member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Eshelman, of Red Oak; children, Gloria (Marlin) Mainquist, of Villisca, Merlin (Michelle) Eshelman, of Omaha, and Shari Woods, of Red Oak; grandchildren, Stephanie Mainquist, of Red Oak, Christopher Mainquist, of Lincoln, Neb., Philip Eshelman, of Shenandoah, Megan Eshelman, John Eshleman, and Danielle Eshelman, all of Omaha, Justin (Nicole) Archer, of Corning, Kyle Archer, of Red Oak, and Ember Erickson and special friend Danny Adams, of Red Oak; brother, Russell (Bernice) Helberg, of Nyssar, Ore.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services took place Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial was in the North Page Cemetery. Visitation with the family took place one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.  

Memorials are suggested to the Iowa Hospice.
