Margaret L. Laire, 78

Margaret L. Laire, 78, of Winterset, formerly Red Oak, died on March 26, 2009, at the West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Winterset.

Margaret Louise Laire was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Elliott, the daughter of Forrest and Molly Marie (McVay) Abramson. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1948 and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.

Margaret was united in marriage to Newell Laire on Nov. 15, 1953, in Glenwood. They lived most of their married life in their home near Stennett. Margaret was a homemaker for many years and later worked for Montgomery County National Bank which later became Firstar Bank from which she retired.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Newell Laire; two grandchildren; and sisters: Bonnie Tye, Libby Tye and Wilma Taylor.

Survivors include her children: Nancy (Larry) Raney of Winterset, Marshall Laire of Van Meter, and Mark Laire of Van Meter; six grandchildren; sisters: Barbara (Norman) Hansen of Ozark, Mo., and Alice Rife of Omaha, Neb.; sister-in-law, Awanda Woods of Red Oak; and three step-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held on March 30 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial of the cremated remains were in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott.

Memorials are suggested to the Middle River Hospice of Winterset, Iowa.
