Margaret L. Posten, 96, of Villisca, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
Margaret Lois (Williams) Posten was born to Harry and Glenna (Fisher) Williams March 28, 1915, in Montgomery County.
She attended and graduated in the class of 1931 from Villisca High School. She attended college at Tarkio College in Missouri and obtained her Bachelors degree. After graduating from college, Margaret started her career as a school teacher.
She married Leonard Posten Dec. 21, 1936, in Red Oak. To this union were born two children, Pamela Ann and John Leonard.
In the late 50’s, Margaret wrote an Iowa history book called “This is the Place Iowa,” which was used in the Iowa State Public School System. She also wrote three children’s books.
She was active in the Methodist Church.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Leonard.
Survivors include her children, Pamela (Bill Hinshaw) Abel, of Boulder, Colo., and John (Margaret) Posten, of Villisca; grandchildren, Whitney (John) Clarkson, of Berthoud, Colo., and Jan (Heather) Posten, of Villisca; and great-grandchildren, Kenyan and Tristan Clarkson, of Berthoud.
Memorial services took place Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Villisca United Methodist Church. There will be a private burial of ashes in the North Page Cemetery at a later date.
