Mark Erickson named and Excellence in Education winner

Mark Erickson, a 13 year veteran teacher at Inman Primary School in the Red Oak Community School District, was named an Excellence in Education Winner for 2010.

Each year the Iowa State Education Association in partnership with the Iowa Farm Bureau, WHO News Radio, KDSM FOX 17, and STAPLES, awards one winning educator and four runners-up with the Excellence in Education Award. Mark Erickson was honored for his outstanding contributions in the teaching profession. According to the award sponsors, Mr. Erickson “goes the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of students each and every day”. Mr. Erickson’s nomination was spearheaded by fellow Instructor Rebecca Sterbick and several assisting staff members at Inman Primary School.
On behalf of the entire school community of Red Oak, Mark Erickson is honored and celebrated. Erickson will be recognized in a formal manner at the Nov. 8 regular meeting of the Red Oak Board of Directors. He also will be the special guest of honor at an awards banquet in Des Moines on Nov. 18.
As he recently commented to Superintendent Terry Schmidt, “I have learned so much from Mr. Laughlin and my colleagues throughout my years. Any “Excellence in Teaching” I might have comes directly from them.  I have had the opportunity to observe many wonderful educators during my time at I.P.S.  There are a lot of teachers at I.P.S. and in our entire district that deserve the Excellence in Teaching Award.”
