Max E. Bauer, 88
Max E. Bauer, 88, died Oct. 19, 2009, at Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak.
Max Edward Bauer was born on March 10, 1921, in Montgomery County, the only child of Emil and Katherine Bauer. Max attended Wales-Lincoln School and graduated in 1938. He enlisted in the US Army on Sept. 4, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 15, 1945. He married Frances Arlene Lee on Jan. 4, 1946, in Coronado, Calif. Max and Fran returned to Iowa and moved to the farm where he grew up.
Throughout his life, Max was involved in 4-H leadership, Farm Bureau, Farmers Mercantile Board, Red Oak Country Club, Masons and Stratton Methodist Church.
Preceding Max in death were his son, Gregory; his mother, Katherine; and his father, Emil.
Max is survived by his wife, Frances Bauer of Red Oak; daughter: Kathie (Jack) Bell of Red Oak; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Don (Charlotte) Lee of Emerson, and Frank Gitchell of Rockford, Ill.; sister-in-law: Ramona Baxter of Shenandoah.
Funeral services were held Oct. 24 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Harvey officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
