Montgomery Co. hosts school board elections

RED OAK — Two declared candidates edged out a write-in candidate in last week’s Red Oak school board election.

Current board president Lee Fellers was re-elected to a second term with 89 votes and William Drey was elected to a first term with 77 votes.

Christine Welter received 27 of 30 write-in votes.

Fellers, a plant controller at Johnson Controls, was appointed to the board in 2007 before being elected to his first four-year term. He served as vice-president before the board elected him president.

Drey recently retired as Montgomery County’s Iowa State University Extension Director. He also worked 21 years in the Red Oak school district as an ag educator.

Without a contested race, only one polling place was open, the Gold Fair building.

Voters in Stanton and Villisca also chose school board members in non-contested races.

Jeff Magneson and Paul Vanderholm were elected to Stanton’s board, with 49 and 47 votes, respectively.

Jason Poston, Tom Williams and Jon Baker were elected in Villisca. Poston received 89 votes, followed by Wiliams with 87 and Baker with 76.
