Nettie Belle Artlip, 90

Nettie Belle (Braden) Artlip, 90, Elliott, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Nettie Belle was born Aug. 8, 1923 near Elliott, the daughter of Raymond and Ruth (Trued) Braden. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1940 and later went to work in California for Douglas Aircraft.

Nettie Belle married Delbert “Dean” Artlip April 26, 1943, in Kansas City. While Dean was in the military, they lived in Joplin, Mo. and at Ft. Dix, N.J., before moving back to Elliott.
Nettie worked for Thos. D. Murphy Company for many years and also had a long career at the Holiday Inn, eventually retiring from Red Coach Inn.

She was a longtime member of the Elliott Church of Christ, the ONO Club, the Pinochle Club and the 15-20 year club at the Murphy Company. She enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking.  She made the best fudge and homemade divinity. Nettie enjoyed watching John Wayne and Shirley Temple movies and visiting with friends wherever she went. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Nettie loved all of her family very much.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Dean Artlip; a brother, Ralph Braden; a sister, Marie Woods; and a son-in-law, Ronald Blackman.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Artlip Blackman and Cathy Adams and husband Jerry of Elliott; grandchildren, Daron Blackman and wife Katy of Elliott and Jennifer Blackman of Red Oak; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Rae Blackman of Red Oak; a brother, John Braden of Red Oak; a brother-in-law, Buzz Artlip and wife Elaine of Villisca; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the Elliott Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established in memory of Nettie Belle.
