Houghton State Bank warns of phishing scam

We want to alert you to a recent phishing scam targeting both customers and non-customers of Houghton State Bank. Several individuals have reported receiving fraudulent phone calls regarding ACH or wire transfers, with the caller falsely identifying themselves as a Houghton State Bank employee.

Important details about the scam:

The caller spoofs the bank's main phone number to make the call appear legitimate.
The caller may reference sensitive topics such as wire transfers or suspicious transactions to elicit personal or financial information.
Both customers and non-customers have been contacted, indicating a broader attempt to deceive community members.

We ask that you:

Share this warning with your staff and contacts.
Remind everyone to never share sensitive information over the phone unless they initiate the call using a verified number.
