Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 23-27

Severe Weather Awareness Week is an opportunity to highlight the importance of being aware of—and prepared for—severe weather.

“There are numerous ways to receive severe weather alerts and emergency information, including NOAA Weather Radios, local media, smartphone apps, and Montgomery County Alert Iowa, which can greatly increase your awareness and preparedness for incoming severe weather,” said Brian Hamman, Montgomery County Emergency Management Director.

Each day of Severe Weather Awareness Week focuses on a different topic:

• Monday: Lightning Safety

• Tuesday: Tornado Safety

• Wednesday: Preparedness

• Thursday: Hail and Wind Safety

• Friday: Flood Safety

The annual statewide tornado drill will take place on Wednesday, March 25, at approximately 10 a.m. Schools, businesses, individuals, and local governments are encouraged to participate to ensure severe weather plans are effective and understood.

Montgomery County will sound all outdoor warning sirens during the drill.
