Kent L. Lane, 83

Kent L. Lane, 83, of Council Bluffs, formerly of Red Oak died on May 14, 2009, at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs after an extended illness.

Kent Leon Lane was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Corning, the son of Brad and Geneva (Hess) Lane. He was raised in Prescott, where he graduated high school. He served in the Merchant Marines and later the Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hurdon Dec. 2, 1949, at Ft. Riley, Kan.

In 1971 Kent and Liz moved to Red Oak. Kent was an auditor for the State of Iowa for many years retiring in 1982. Kent was a former Masonic Lodge Member, American Legion Member, and was a member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters: Ailene Garrett and Ruth McCarrison; and two brothers: Neil Lane and Leo Lane.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Lane of Council Bluffs; children: Bob (Kathi) Lane of Omaha, Neb.; Roxanne Grabowski of Crescent; and Carol (David) Brett of East Windsor, N.J.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law: Mary Ann Lane of Omaha, Neb.

Funeral services were held on May 18 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Interment services were held at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Council Bluffs.

Memorials are suggested to the Bethany Lutheran Home.
